Emmental, so called for historical reasons, is a tenement flat in Edinburgh.  We've been losing flatmates a lot these last few years, under circumstances that range from farcical to tragic.  Recently another one fled to the antipodes, leaving us briefly outnumbered only two-to-one by computers until Tef helped shift the balance back again.  We're keeping the precise address a little vague for the sake of security, but it's somewhere on this map:

Part of the reason for the distinction between the real-life community of Emmental and the virtual community of Xibalba is to allow for guest accounts like Bantha's or for changes of street address like the one we keep failing to achieve; compare Xibalba's virtual neighbours such as Flyingisland, who keep changing both their postcode and their URL!

While I'm sure there's more I could add about the vaguely pleasing sociopolitical implications of this kind of residential web community, it doesn't look like I'll get round to it any time soon.
